Samsung Unveils the NX30, Boasts Speedy Performance and Great Connectivity

You can expect a bunch of camera and gear announcements to go live ahead of CES, and breaking the ice for all of the other companies is Samsung, who today officially released the much rumored and speculated about NX30 Compact System Camera.

If we had to sum up the NX30 in two words they would be: speed and connectivity. Of course, we’re not limited to two, which is good, because the camera has a lot more to recommend it.

Spec wise, we’re looking at a 20.3-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, next-gen DRIMeIV Image Processor, 3-inch AMOLED 1.037M-dot swivel touchscreen, a tiltable 2.359M-dot EVF (with an eye-contact sensor), built-in OIS Duo technology, ISO range between 100 and 25,600, 3D capture capability (using Samsung’s 2D/3D lens), Full HD 1080/60p video capture, WiFi and NFC.

But, as we said before, the name of the game for this camera is speed and connectivity. Along those lines, the NX30 boasts the speedy NX AF System II, a max shutter speed of 1/8000 of a second and 9fps continuous shooting; and the WiFi and NFC capabilities built in allow you to connect and send images and video in all sorts of creative ways.

You can use the company’s ‘Tag & Go’ feature to share photos instantly with NFC-enabled gadgets, the ‘Photo Beam’ feature to transfer files by simply touching the camera to any compatible smartphone or tablet, and the ‘Mobile Link’ feature to send images to up to four smart devices simultaneously.

And if that’s not enough, you also have the ‘AutoShare’ feature — which allows you to instantly back up every photo to your smartphone or tablet — and ‘Remote Viewfinder Pro’ — which lets you control the camera from your smart device.

Here’s a closer look at the camera:

As you can see, we could have just as easily replaced the word “speed” with “versatility,” referring to the tiltable EVF and LCD, which give you an impressive level of control when it comes to picking your shooting angles.

“The NX30 continues the evolution of our award-winning NX series of cameras, bringing with it new and improved features such as a better imaging processor and our advanced SMART Camera offering,” explains Samsung Executive Vice President Myoung Sup Han. “Not only does this camera deliver the performance users demand, it is also easy-to-use so that moments are never missed.”

No pricing and availability info has come down the pipe just yet, but stick around and we’ll be sure to share it with you once it does.
