What’s Your New Year’s Resolution?

What’s Your New Year’s Resolution? Happy New Year!! It’s 2012 and to be honest, we’re still reeling from eating too much, flying to faraway places and just decompressing with family and friends. Here’s some photos taken from some of the team’s holiday experiences… The new year is an interesting time, as we reflect on 12 months that have literally flown by and decide what we might want to do differently. We’re gearing up for a busy year and the inevitable question has come up throughout the halls – “what’s your New Year’s resolution?” We all know resolutions are meant to be broken, just like Jeff Harris,...

Take a moment and enjoy: The film is made entirely from a collection of over 1.5 terabytes of RAW photographs, which were then edited and set to motion using time lapse techniques. [Video] 4,748 Self-Portraits And A Very Inspiring Story Meet Jeff Harris, photographer, who in 1999 decided to start a personal project of taking a self portrait every day, and continues doing it even today. He wanted to make it different than most of the 365 projects, and make it more like a documentary. “I didn’t want 365 images of me sitting on the couch each day,” Jeff recently told TIME.com, “There could have been that tendency, especially during the cold dark winter months to stay inside all the time, but this project inspired me to get out there and seek out interesting things”. There is a twist in the story, which makes...

High Speed Photography Tips

High Speed Photography Tips “POP!” captured by Louann Waters (Click Image to See More From Louann Waters) Have you ever wondered how photographers were able to capture a water splash, bursting balloon, or a bullet hitting a fruit? The goal of the high speed photography is capturing objects in motion. You can photograph events that follow a predictable sequence. In all cases you want to be able to detect a trigger, wait for an event and take a picture. For example, in order to capture a falling drop hitting the surface of water, first you need to detect the time when the drop starts falling. Next, you...

What Type of Lens to Use for Specific Situations?

What Type of Lens to Use for Specific Situations? The lens is the “eye” of your camera and plays the key role in capturing clarity, color and details of each image. Whether you are a specialized or a beginner photographer choosing right lens will definitely elevate your photography. With a point and shoot type of camera the lens is fixed which cannot be removed or replaced. Digital SLR cameras offer lens mounts where you can swap and use different type lenses. “photographer” captured by Chanmee Gloria Kim (Click Image to See More From Chanmee Gloria Kim) Before diving into available types, the definition of focal length and...

How to Get a Blog Post to Write Itself

Blogging is a great, free way to promote your photography business. Its benefits include targeted local traffic and networking opportunities with other vendors and venues. There’s the free promotion when your clients share your posts using social media, not to mention the happy client testimonials collecting in the comments.   Websites with blogs get 55 percent more traffic than those without, according to Hubspot.com. More traffic means more leads, and that adds up to more money. There’s just one problem: What if you’re not a “writer?” You’ve got great photos to show off,...

Professional Photography Prices and Rates

Professional Photography Prices and Rates Photo captured by Grigoryev Sergey (Click Image to See More From Grigoryev Sergey) Pricing… you can’t work as a professional photographer for very long without becoming caught up in the subject of pricing your work (well, you could, perhaps, but you would never make any money). Then there’s the question of, not only what prices to charge, but also how to educate your clients about your price list without them bailing out or thinking you’re trying to pressure them. In the time that I’ve been running my studio as a professional photographer, I’ve explored different methods of...

Wedding Photographer Assistant Tips

Wedding Photographer Assistant Tips Photo captured by Tatiana Garanina (Click Image to See More From Tatiana Garanina) Before I go into what the requirements are on the wedding day from a second photographer, it would be a good idea to think about what should be considered before the day. First things first, you may be someone who is trying to get work as a second photographer to get started in the industry before launching into a wedding as a lead photographer. This can often be difficult so be prepared to travel to an area outside what would be considered your territory. Photographers are business people and are always wary...
