How to Shoot Stock Photography: People Stock Guide part 2

How to Shoot Stock Photography: People Stock Guide part 2 Continuing where I left off in the last post, this is the second part of the final installment of my series on stock photography. Now that I’ve covered the overly complicated and legal section of people stock photography, It’s about time to really get into the guide on how to do people stock photography. Shooting Restrictions This title is a little deceiving, in fact there are no real restrictions to shooting people stock photography. This type of stock only requires that there be piece of humanity in the image. This could be a model’s full body shot, a head shot, or even just a...

Focus Modes in Digital Cameras

Focus Modes in Digital Cameras “Hunter and the hunted” captured by Amith Surendran (Click Image to See More From Amith Surendran) It’s a fact that digital cameras have become more advanced today that they require little effort from users in order to capture the best images possible. More features have been enhanced through the years that allow people including children to use digital cameras with great ease. One of the best features that these latest photographic equipment can offer people is the autofocus system. This is available in both the point and shoot and the DSLR models. But while some serious...

Tone Mapping in Photography: HDR Effect

Tone Mapping in Photography: HDR Effect “Pier Light HDR” captured by Steve SMP (Click Image to See More From Steve SMP) When creating HDR images one must be concerned with the HDR look. But what exactly is the HDR look? If one wants to be technical then the look is defined as a tone mapped look; an image that is the product of the merging of three or more bracketed exposures that is the result of tone mapping and not the merger alone. So what! In reality, the HDR look is a creative look, the tone mapping that produces an image that resembles a traditional photograph but no longer looks like a traditional photograph....

[Discussion] Yes, I think Hipstamatic and Instagram are Bullshit but then again… I’m a photographer.

[Discussion] Yes, I think Hipstamatic and Instagram are Bullshit but then again… I’m a photographer. Ok, sure there are some guys like Damon Winter, David Guttenfelder, Teru Kuwayama and Balazs Gardi who have succesfully capitalized off of the novelty of iPhone filters like Hipstamatic and Instagram and produced some compelling works. But I still maintain that the use of iPhone filters, for anything other than fun/novelty shooting, have very little to do with real photography. It’s not the use of an iPhone that I find “cheap” (I think they are brilliant) but the use of cookie cutter filters in place of creativity and light comprehension. I think Sam Biddle over at Gizmodo said it...

[Photo] Amazing Photograph Series Of A Soap Bubble Popping

[Photo] Amazing Photograph Series Of A Soap Bubble Popping “I was looking for new things to photograph and I just thought the bubbles looked beautiful and with a bit of luck I managed to get one mid burst,” said Richard Heeks. “One day I was so absorbed in the project I didn’t notice a group of builders watching me. I think I must have looked a bit of an idiot, but maybe they thought it was fascinating. Who knows, because I got embarrassed and scuttled back into the house.”     Photographer Richard Heeks, from Exeter, used a fast shutter speed of 1/500th of a second and chose a perfect wind-free day so nothing would disturb...

How to Shoot Stock Photography: People Stock Guide

How to Shoot Stock Photography: People Stock Guide This will be the final installment of my stock photography series, and will cover the most difficult part of stock photography: People Stock Photography. The most identifiable type of stock photography is that of people stock photography. These images are most identifiable by their corniness, usually. This type of stock photography includes all of those images of people dressed in office clothes laughing at a computer, a generic person in a lab coat, or any other type of image used to show some form of human interaction or emotion. Commonly these images are used as filler for ads, marketing,...
