800-Year-Old Coffin Damaged After Museum Visitor Lifts Kid in for Photo

800-Year-Old Coffin Damaged After Museum Visitor Lifts Kid in for Photo An 800-year-old stone coffin in a UK museum was damaged earlier this month when parents decided to lift their child into it to pose for a photo. The Guardian reports that the ancient artifact was on display at the Prittlewell Priory Museum in Southend, Essex, on August 4th when the kid was lifted past the protective barrier and placed into the coffin. The coffin then fell off its stand, breaking a chunk out of it. Security camera footage shows that the family quickly left the area without reporting the damage to museum staff, who discovered it and then found out what happened through...

Field Test: Using the Loupedeck to Up My Lightroom Game

Field Test: Using the Loupedeck to Up My Lightroom Game I’m going to start this field test back to front and for one reason only: the LoupeDeck system blew my socks off. If you’re a wedding photographer — in fact, if you’re into any genre of photography — the Loupedeck is a game changer. I used it to edit a full wedding from start to finish. It not only halved my editing time, but it made the experience of editing fun again. I was in my element editing with the Loupedeck, waking up early to start editing because my workflow had become so smooth and ergonomic. I could end the field test here and just say get your...

How to Turn Day Into Night in a Photo Using Photoshop

How to Turn Day Into Night in a Photo Using Photoshop In this 8 minute image manipulation tutorial, Colin Smith of photoshopCAFE utilises the little-used Lighting Effects filter in Photoshop to completely re-light a scene. Smith completely reinvents a daytime scene by compositing in street lamps and then using the Lighting Effects filter (found under Filter>Render) to turn them on. Lighting Effects allows you to create virtual light sources in your image, with full control over the size and angle, fall-off, color, and background ambiance. To change the coloring of the sky behind the brick wall in his image, Smith uses another little-known...

What a Total Solar Eclipse Looks Like in 4K, Close-Up, and Real-Time

What a Total Solar Eclipse Looks Like in 4K, Close-Up, and Real-Time During the Great American Eclipse, photographer JunHo Oh captured this incredible close-up 4K footage of totality in real time. You can see a great deal of detail on the moon’s surface and in the Sun’s corona. The footage was captured from Warm Springs, Oregon, using a 2160mm f/12 telescope, a Panasonic GX85, and a RST-150H robotic mount by RainbowAstro to trace the edge of totality as it occurred. “RST-150H weighs only 3.5kg (7.7 lbs) but carries up to 15kg (33 lbs) of optical equipment without any counter weight,” the creator writes. “RST-150H mount is...

My Photo of Four Bikers, and the Power of Photography to Connect Us

My Photo of Four Bikers, and the Power of Photography to Connect Us While visiting Yosemite in June, I took this photo of 4 riders on the road. A couple of days later, I posted the photo on Reddit’s /r/pics. It made it to the Reddit front page with more than 40k upvotes and almost 600 comments. I saw that location many times on the Internet, and I wanted to add it to my portfolio. I drove up to Glacier Point, parked my car, and walked back a few turns to the place I had seen so many times in pictures. After setting up the tripod with my favorite composition, I started waiting for an interesting subject to show up. I was hoping for a nice car, a...

How to Use Auto AF Fine Tune on Your Nikon DSLR the Right Way

How to Use Auto AF Fine Tune on Your Nikon DSLR the Right Way Here’s a 12-minute video in which photographer Steve Perry shows how to use the relatively new “Auto AF Fine Tune” feature from Nikon. If your camera is back or forward focusing, then it’s likely you need to fine tune the autofocus. Often this would involve buying a commercial kit, or doing a bit of guess work, and in more extreme cases even sending your DSLR back to Nikon itself. However, that is set to change with the Auto AF Fine Tune feature that is present on cameras like the Nikon D5, D500, D7500, and most likely any future mid-to-pro level cameras....

Man Shames Tourists for Stepping Near Yellowstone Hot Springs for Photos

Man Shames Tourists for Stepping Near Yellowstone Hot Springs for Photos Late last month, a man named Jeff H. was walking on a trail in Yellowstone National Park when he noticed a group of tourists ignoring warning signs and standing next to one of the famous hot springs for close-up photos. His video 4.5-minute video above showing himself scolding the tourists has since gone viral. “What the heck. Hey! Get out of there!” Jeff can be heard shouting in the video. A sign next to the trail warns, “Danger. Fragile Thermal Area,” and instructs visitors to stay on official marked trails. Even after Jeff’s shouts, the tourists continued...
