Here’s a Tiny Sleeping Bag Designed for a DSLR Camera

Here’s a Tiny Sleeping Bag Designed for a DSLR Camera How sweet is this? Photographer Kevin Pickell wanted a solution for keeping his DSLR camera kit safe while driving around with it while still having it accessible, so his wife created a miniature sleeping bag for it. It’s “great for driving with frequent stops to take a few photos, and protects the camera in-case of a panic stop,” Pickell writes. The bag is the perfect size for Pickell’s Nikon DSLR and telephoto lens with the hood attached. “The ‘sleeping bag’ she made was just a piece cut out of an old sleeping bag we had lying around so she just...

Behold: this is the 6D Mark II, as seen in leaked photos. The photos were published by Japanese camera rumor site Nokishita Camera. They show what rumors have been saying for a while now, including the fact that Canon is introducing the first fully-articulating LCD touchscreen on a full-frame DSLR. The 3-inch screen can be seen in this photo of the camera’s back side: For comparison, here’s what the...

Photographer, Models Fined For Photo Shoot On Hanging Lake Log

Photographer, Models Fined For Photo Shoot On Hanging Lake Log Liquido Active, an activewear brand based in Brazil, has been embroiled in a scandal for the past week after posting an image to their Instagram of their models doing yoga on Hanging Lake’s iconic log. Hanging Lake is a 1.5-acre lake in Colorado which was formed by a geologic fault, causing the lake bed to drop away from the valley floor above. The waters are brilliant turquoise, owing to the carbonate minerals dissolved in the water. There is also at least one very polite sign, warning the public to “Please Keep Off The Log”. Sony SLT Camera Found in Crashed North Korean Spy Drone

Sony SLT Camera Found in Crashed North Korean Spy Drone Guess what fancy camera technology North Korea uses for its spy drone program? Sony’s A-mount SLT cameras. One of these cameras was recently found by South Korean authorities in a North Korean spy drone that was found crashed in a forest. According to Reuters, South Korean authorities said that the drone had apparently crashed while flying back to North Korea after shooting photos of an advanced U.S. anti-missile battery located in South Korea. On the drone was a Sony SLT digital camera with about 10 photos of the anti-missile system in the 64GB memory card. “The pictures...

PSA: Deleting Old Lightroom Data Can Clear Up a TON of Space

PSA: Deleting Old Lightroom Data Can Clear Up a TON of Space Photos take up a lot of storage space. That’s just something that us photographers have to deal with. That said, there’s no reason to waste space on our computers. So here’s a tip: deleting old, unneeded Lightroom data can clear up a ton of space. Many laptops, like mine, come with relatively small SSD, where every gigabyte counts. I was recently cleaning out the storage on my computer, and realized that Lightroom’s files were taking up a pretty large chunk of space — about 20GB. After digging around a bit, I found that old previews and backups were responsible for a large...

Here’s the Number One Challenge for Photographers

Here’s the Number One Challenge for Photographers One camera, one lens, one film/preset, one year. The “Number One Challenge” is as simple as that, and at the same time incredibly difficult as well. This challenge, at the end of it, promises to change your approach and style as a photographer. I originally got the idea from photographer David Brommer and tweaked it a little. Originally the idea was to find your style but I turned it into a way to simplify a photographers workflow, style, and life. First, pick a camera, preferably one you already have, be it a DSLR, point-and-shoot, or a cellphone. Whatever you have, use only...

A Mozart-Inspired Infrared Timelapse Shot with a Converted Sony a6300

A Mozart-Inspired Infrared Timelapse Shot with a Converted Sony a6300 In this stunning 3-minute infrared timelapse, director and filmmaker Matthew Rycroft sought to answer the question: ‘What would a Mozart music video look like?’. The result is a dramatic 3-act cinematic opera titled “Siege of Salzburg,” and filmed in the city of Mozart’s birth. Rycroft shot the time-lapse entirely on a Sony a6300 camera specially converted for full spectrum infrared (830nm) photography, creating a unique and theatrical deep contrast black-and-white film, which perfectly complements Mozart’s “Lacrimosa”. He shot 3TB of infrared footage...

These Portraits Were Shot with a Water Drop as a Lens

These Portraits Were Shot with a Water Drop as a Lens Dutch photographer Robin de Puy recently shot a series of beautiful portraits with unusual camera “equipment.” Instead of using a typical lens made of metal (or plastic) and glass, she shot the photos using a single drop of water as her lens. Portrait Academy reports that the high-tech camera system was developed over several weeks. Here’s a rough overview of how it works: a drop of water is placed on a glass plate covered with Teflon, which keeps the drop round instead of allowing it to spread across the plate. An electric current is then applied to the plate to change the...
