Startup Promises VR with ‘Human Eye Resolution’

Startup Promises VR with ‘Human Eye Resolution’ Virtual reality is an up and coming industry. Big jumps are being made, with many genres of photography and film getting on board. But VR has always been limited in its resolution, with the experience feeling a bit pixelated to the user. Finnish startup Varjo wants to change this with “human eye resolution.” Having emerged from stealth mode this week, Varjo is making bold claims about its virtual reality software and headsets. Codenamed “20|20” after perfect human vision, the prototype headset was created by a team of optical scientists, creatives, and developers,...

Storm Clouds Ripple and Writhe at Sunset in This Incredible Timelapse

Storm Clouds Ripple and Writhe at Sunset in This Incredible Timelapse Just plain stunning. Storm chaser Mike Olbinski has made his mark in the world of photography with some pretty incredible timelapses, but this short timelapse of a storm in North Dakota takes the jaw-dropping cake. The storm, captured just 4 days ago, put together a glorious demonstration of the rare undulating type of cloud called Asperitas clouds, formerly known as Undulatus Asperatus. These beautiful (and a little terrifying) clouds ripple, slowly undulating through the sky like a roiling ocean. Sped up in timelapse, the effect is mesmerizing. “All spring I chase storms across...

Instagram to Clearly Label Sponsored Photos with Product Placements

Instagram to Clearly Label Sponsored Photos with Product Placements When Facebook took over Instagram, it was clear it would adopt the same changes seen in Facebook news feeds that are known so well. Algorithms push certain stories higher in feeds, rather than displaying them in chronological order. Now, sponsored posts will be clearly labelled in a bid to out paid product placement on the platform. Alongside today’s announcement of Instagram Archives, the company has announced that it will properly label all sponsored stories on the platform. When restrictions on companies paying influencers for posts started to come in, users...

This Photographer Uses a Flash Drone to Light Difficult Portraits

This Photographer Uses a Flash Drone to Light Difficult Portraits Want to place an off-camera flash where stands and assistants can’t go? Try mounting it to a drone. That’s what Chinese photographer Fuyan Liu does to light difficult portraits in extreme situations. WeTalkUAV reports that Liu attached a flash to a DJI Inspire 2 drone for a recent fashion photo shoot on top of a tall building. The drones allowed her to illuminate her subjects using a light floating hundreds of feet in the air off the edge of the building. “Drone with flash can give you an unlimited amount of angles and distances,” writes WeTalkUAV. “Drones...

Wedding Ceremony Pictures

Wedding Ceremony Pictures Wedding Ceremony Pictures as well as any official reception event I feel like it’s important to step back and take a picture from the guests perspective.  Most of their wedding pictures will be close up of the couple, which is great but if we can show more then one perspective it will help with telling their story and just help add variate. Find a way to add Interest to your Ceremony Pictures               Showing the back of your guests heads is not very exciting and would most likely be over looked, so in the above photo I put our subjects in the...

Storytelling and Photography

Storytelling and Photography Journalists, travelers, and freelance photographers all depend upon the ability to tell a story with their photographs. For the amateur photographer, however, this important skill is often tossed aside in lieu of more concrete ideas such as correct composition, depth of field, and anything that corresponds to a button or knob on a camera. It’s true that there is no automatic setting for storytelling, though the fact remains that a story is one of the most important elements of a great photo. Read on for some tips on training your photographer’s mind to incorporate a story into every one...
